Shady Commentary: Courtney Act is Queen of the (English-speaking) World
She done did it: Courtney Act slash Shane Janek , former finalist of RPDR Season 6 and several other reality TV shows throughout the english-speaking world, won UK's Celebrity Big Brother. In a series labeled as "Year of the Woman", how strange and wonderful is the world in which a Drag Queen takes that crown?
She started off strong with an accidental disrobing or two, and remained a powerful favorite even through several nominations, and seemingly close scrapes. In the interim, Courtney sparred with former-MP and present-day conservative, Ann Widdecombe (who, in her day, voted against every LGBTQ legislation presented before her); she befriended and became champion of fellow-housemate, transgendered news-reader, India Willoughby; using that body-ody-ody and the endless charm she is famous for, she won the heart of the cutest of straight-boys, Andrew Brady -- even going so far as to make out with him, swim semi-naked and frolic on the floor with her legs locked on said prize -- all during the daily prime-time viewing hours on Channel 5 in the UK.
Votes by the public for her win, buoyed by famous Drag Sisters like Adore Delano, Bianca DelRio and others, reportedly took over 40% of the total votes: incredibly high, which speaks to the charm, openness, ability to cope and to deal with others on their terms -- attributes Courtney displayed throughout the competition.
Auntie Beeb reported over the weekend, saying Courtney's inspiration of coming into the Celebrity Big Brother house was to be an inspiration to others that are growing up like she, those not knowing how they belong or fit in. On her win, "I guess it's validation that it's ok to be different," said Courtney.
Well done, Courtney. Good on you!
