Shady Commentary: Should a previous winner get the chance to compete again?
Just a little over 24 hours left to wait before the start of RPDR Allstars 3, and soon we'll know definitively who contestant Mystery #10 will be. And the world is waiting, and talking. And guessing. Three LONG months of guessing, and folks have come up with some opinions.
Opinions are like a$$holes, and I guess so are "expert opinions" on who #10 will be. I don't pretend to be an expert, I literally have no way of knowing, but a number of potentials have been suggested as #10. Most are leaning hard on BeBe Zahara Benet. On the RPDR wiki, she's described as "known for her big booty, cute smile, polished runway presentations, and her stunning leotards which led her to snatch the crown of America's Next Drag Superstar." She is most memorable in my book as the lion(ess) pictured below. Powerhouse, am I right?
She competed and won the first season of RPDR, and most seem to want to make the argument that she deserves a second chance because Season 1 sucked, and therefore it should be treated as off-canon. Don't side-eye me please, I'm just paraphrasing. But I actually watched Season 1 (funny story there). And especially in comparison to what we know now, yes it did suck: grainy and poorly produced; overuse of a single shot of a old, wet boa stuck to a trash can; lacking content and good pacing and excitement...but BeBe still won the crown, and quite deservedly!
And in a little over 24 hours I'm sure I'll be the only one who said this, but I just don't think previous winners should compete against those that were potentially robbed (aka Kennedy Davenport) in an Allstars season. If any previous winner comes back for a second-go, competing against contestants who didn't get a crown the first time around -- that's even less fair than "things have changed and Drag Race is bigger and Bebe got robbed of a glorious crown because of it".
In the end I guess it doesn't matter, especially what I think. What actually matters is her ability to perform and compete, and no one will ever hear me say Bebe can't win this season in a big sweep. Cause she can and probably will! That's is if she's #10...and there's still a chance she's not.
But enough about my thoughts, and enough of all the supposed experts, what are yours?
- TALKING POINT: Do you want Bebe as #10, and if not, tell us who you'd love to see instead! You've only a few hours before the confirmation comes so get talking.
